English lessons should do more than help a student finish this week’s homework. EDUCO identifies the skills affecting school performance, then develops them through explicit teaching, guided practice and feedback. Depending on the student’s level, lessons can cover reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, spelling, sentence construction, narrative and persuasive writing, text analysis, essays and exam technique.
English Support for Every Stage of School
Years 1–6: Stronger Reading, Comprehension and Writing
Primary school is where students learn to understand texts and express ideas clearly. EDUCO’s NAPLAN Fundamental Years 1–6 program includes English and a dedicated Writing class—not simply test practice. Students work on reading, comprehension, spelling, grammar and punctuation, then apply those skills to complete pieces of writing. Older primary students can also build the literacy needed for OC preparation and Selective classes.
Years 7–10: From Understanding a Text to Explaining It
High school students are expected to analyse how language, form and structure shape meaning. EDUCO’s high school subjects program teaches students to annotate texts, form an interpretation, select evidence and organise it into a clear paragraph or essay. Feedback focuses on the next useful change rather than rewriting the work for them.
Years 11–12: Preliminary and HSC English
Senior support becomes specific to the student’s course, prescribed texts and assessment schedule. Preliminary and HSC classes support English Standard, Advanced and Extension pathways. Students practise close analysis, thesis development, evidence selection, critical and creative composition, exam timing and responding directly to unfamiliar questions.

Narrative and Persuasive Writing Require Different Choices
Good writing is planned for its purpose and audience. Students learn how to interpret a prompt, generate ideas, choose a structure, draft, receive feedback and edit their own work.
Narrative writing is assessed through elements such as:
- engaging ideas, characters and setting;
- purposeful orientation, complication and resolution;
- vocabulary, cohesion and sentence control; and
- accurate spelling and punctuation.
Persuasive writing is assessed through elements such as:
- a clear position suited to the audience;
- logical arguments supported with reasons or examples;
- persuasive devices and deliberate word choices; and
- organised paragraphs and accurate conventions.
This approach builds transferable writing skills rather than a memorised response for one prompt.
Reading Comprehension Supports Every Other English Skill
Comprehension means understanding what a text states, suggests and achieves. Students learn to identify key information, infer meaning, recognise purpose and explain an answer using evidence. These skills support NAPLAN reading, Selective preparation, high school text analysis and HSC responses. A tutor can also identify whether the real barrier is vocabulary, reading fluency, attention to the question or difficulty connecting ideas across a text.
Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation in Context
Accuracy matters because it helps a reader follow the student’s meaning. Rather than treating conventions as an isolated worksheet, tutors connect them to the student’s own writing. Lessons may address spelling patterns, sentence boundaries, tense, agreement, apostrophes, commas and paragraphing. The student then edits a draft and learns how to spot the same issue independently next time.
Lessons Follow the NSW English Syllabus
Teaching aligns with the relevant NESA NSW English syllabus and the outcomes for each stage. In 2026, that means English K–10, the new Year 11 senior syllabuses and the current Year 12 Stage 6 courses.
