NAPLAN Tutoring Sydney

EDUCO Tutoring runs NAPLAN classes for Sydney students in Years 1 to 6, on campus at Edmondson Park and Homebush West or online. We teach in small groups of up to seven students, building the reading, writing and numeracy skills NAPLAN measures.

Why We Start in Year 1, Not Year 3

NAPLAN is sat in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9, but the skills it measures (reading, writing, spelling and number sense) build up over years. That is why our programme runs from Year 1 to Year 6, not just in test years.

For a test year, start in Term 4 the year before. The 2027 test is held 10 to 22 March. Students heading for OC or Selective move on to our OC classes and Selective classes. For Years 7 and 9, see high school tutoring.

What the Four NAPLAN Tests Assess

Reading: understanding a range of texts
Writing: a narrative or persuasive piece
Conventions of language: spelling, grammar and punctuation
Numeracy: number, algebra, measurement, space and statistics

We teach all four as everyday skills, with extra focus on writing.

How to Read Your Child’s Report

Results come in four levels: Exceeding, Strong, Developing, and Needs additional support.

A report is a snapshot of one week. What matters is which area is lowest and whether it is improving. We go through the report with you and turn it into a plan.

When Should Preparation Start?

NAPLAN is held in March, and the 2027 test window is 10 to 22 March. Working back from that: assess in Term 4 the year before, consolidate reading fluency and number facts over summer, then use Term 1 for online format familiarisation and timed practice. Test week itself needs routine and rest, not new content.

Families who start in February are not preparing; they are cramming.

How Our Classes Work

Classes are capped at 7 students, so the teacher sees every child’s work during the lesson. One-on-one tutoring is also available.

Students are grouped by level, not just school year. Each gets their own booklets and NAPLAN-style practice tests, and earns Edu Bucks for finished homework, which they swap for prizes at the end of term.
